MasterCard now offers debit cards (called Maestro, see separate listing) as well as its original credit card. It is important to note the difference. With MasterCard credit cards, you are effectively borrowing the money you are spending from a finance company. So long as you pay off the entire balance before the end of your monthly statement period, this borrowing is usually without charge. But if you don’t, you have to pay interest on the balance outstanding. This charge varies, but is usually around 1.5% per month (about 20% APR).
